From
the heart of advanced aerospace technology research comes the Decksdoctor
MK1 carbon fibre straight tone arm suitable for Technics® 1200
series turntables. Designed with a multitude of users in mind from
the connoisseur to the most demanding scratch DJ.
Why carbon fibre you ask? Apart from the aesthetic appeal there
are many reasons for this type of arm. Firstly carbon fibre was
chosen for its superior stiffness (in torsion) to weight ratio.
This allows the hollow structure with the same wall thickness as
the standard item to be in the order of a magnitude stiffer. In
addition to increased stiffness the carbon fibre tone arm also offers
improved damping properties due to the perpendicular lay of the
fibre weave used in its construction. The fibres being at right
angles every few millimetres allow them to act as an arrest point
for any resonance fed back up the arm. During the evaluation phase
it was discovered that replicating the standard tone arm tube section
weight of 8.1g was not sufficient for the scratch DJ. Some of whom
are regularly a kin to placing coins/weight on the head shell to
increase the down force, in certain cases adding up to another 3.5g.
The MkII tone arm (currently under development) goes some way towards
compromising this situation by weighing in the order of 10g. Each
tone arm is hand crafted and comes complete with its own unique
serial number. These tone arms are available as two retro fit kits:
· Arm only (for the more skilled installer)
· Tone arm assembly complete with gimble in line with an
OEM replacement
and
also available fitted to your turntable.
